NATIVE HAWAIIAN DESIGN

Our Hana Paʻa design features the Hawaiian flag (hae Hawaiʻi) with a stylized twist. The Hawaiian flag features the Union Jack in the top left corner, with eight alternating stripes of red, white, and blue from the bottom up. Each of the stripes on the Hawaiian flag represent each of the Hawaiian islands. However, this design features silhouettes of popular fish found in Hawaiʻi, including the ʻahi, mahimahi, ono, kahala, ʻaʻu, and so many more.

The term "Hana Paʻa" means "to make secure" or "to fasten". In the modern fishing culture of Hawaiʻi, it is a common phrase that local fisherman use to signify that they have a fish on their line. When the fishermen yell "HANA PAʻA", the team knows to quickly begin doing their jobs to increase their chances of landing their catch. Get this design for any avid fisher man or woman that takes on the challenges of the ocean (moana) to feed their family!

Sustainability

We've partnered with some stellar organizations who are taking garment printing into the 21st century with DTG (direct-to-garment) printing technology. This means, everything at Maoli is made to order and we don’t have a warehouse full of clothes lying around. This reduces the clothing waste in our business to nearly zero.

Our eco-friendly water-based inks provide unlimited color combinations and make detailed prints pop without reducing their vibrancy in the wash. Reducing toxicity in the environment is one of our top priorities.

Whenever possible, we also use organic, recycled, or sustainable fabrics to manufacture our apparel. We aim to make our products good for your body and for the ʻāina (land).

We encourage our customers and our community to demand more from us when it comes to sustainability. Have an idea? Please don’t hesitate to reach out!
