NATIVE HAWAIIAN DESIGN

Our Maoli rash guard includes several key elements that represent Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians). The first is our logo and the word, “Maoli” on the front center chest. Maoli means “indigenous” or “native” in the Hawaiian language. We are proud poʻe maoli (native peoples) of Hawaiʻi.

On the right sleeve is the silhouette of the pae ʻāina o Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian islands). Hawaiʻi is our homeland and the place that all Kānaka Maoli connect back to our cultural heritage and ancestors.

The left sleeve features the Hae Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian flag). This is the original flag of the Hawaiian kingdom, and reminds present-day Hawaiians of the independent sovereign nation of the North Pacific. Finally, the design also features our logo, which includes the three mauna (mountain) pattern triangles representing the three hanauna (generations) guiding native peoples of today – past, present and future.

Sustainability

We've partnered with some stellar organizations who are taking garment printing into the 21st century with DTG (direct-to-garment) printing technology. This means, everything at Maoli is made to order and we don’t have a warehouse full of clothes lying around. This reduces the clothing waste in our business to nearly zero.

Our eco-friendly water-based inks provide unlimited color combinations and make detailed prints pop without reducing their vibrancy in the wash. Reducing toxicity in the environment is one of our top priorities.

Whenever possible, we also use organic, recycled, or sustainable fabrics to manufacture our apparel. We aim to make our products good for your body and for the ʻāina (land).

We encourage our customers and our community to demand more from us when it comes to sustainability. Have an idea? Please don’t hesitate to reach out!
