NATIVE HAWAIIAN DESIGN

This design honors the ʻōlelo noʻeau (Hawaiian proverb), I maikaʻi ke kalo i ka ʻohā. This proverb is for all our parents out there as it compares kalo (the taro plant) and its ʻohā (offspring) to a parent and their child.⁠

The proverb translates to, “the goodness of the taro is judged by the young plant it produces”. Like kalo, our children are shining reflections of who we are as people. Our strength isn't measured by our own individual goodness, but the goodness we nurtured and cultivated in the next generation. ⁠

This design comes in pairs (one for the parent and one for the child). The parent design features the first half of the proverb, “I maikaʻi ke kalo” (the goodness of the taro is judged). The child design features the second half of the proverb, “i ka ʻohā” (by the offspring it produces). Make sure to note which design you are purchasing (parent or child).

Our eco-friendly water-based inks provide unlimited color combinations and make detailed prints pop without reducing their vibrancy in the wash. Reducing toxicity in the environment is one of our top priorities. 

Whenever possible, we also use organic, recycled, or sustainable fabrics to manufacture our apparel. We aim to make our products good for your body and for the ʻāina (land).
